History

The Doel cog was found in 2000 during the harbour works in Antwerp. It is one of the largest cogs ever found. Since the summer of 2010 the cog is now being researched by a team of the Flemish Heritage Institute (VIOE).

Length: ca. 22m

Width: ca. 7m

Height: ca. 3m

A 14th century cog. This vessel was fitted with a single mast and a square-rigged sail. The wreck was found during harbour works in 2000, while digging the Deurganckdock. In 2002 a second part of a cog was found on the same site. The Doel cog is one of the best preserved cogs ever found and is now being researched by a team of the VIOE/ Flemish Heritage Agency.
